There are endless possibilities in the art of abstraction. Formal concerns such as structure, color, and paint application are simply the means, not the end for me. I have been searching for specific images that can be created by those means, the images that elicit particular emotions: optimistic feeling, positive attitude, and cheerfulness. I am painting each line and color carefully with a belief in goodness.

I was born in Okinawa Japan, learning Japanese calligraphy as I was growing up and later under master Uson Shiroma. I had a traditional Western art training at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, but over the years, my painting style has shifted back toward drawing as calligraphy. I enjoy drawing lines most and use the canvas as a sheet of colored paper. My early works were usually derived from realistic image of things on my mind, but gradually they have lost the reference to the reality and become totally abstract.
